IPTV on Samsung Smart TV: setup guide
Samsung smart TVs run their own operating system and have their own app store. So the first step is always to find out exactly which TV you have. These are the preparations that apply whichever provider you use.
This guide covers the TV’s own settings. Which app applies and which details to enter come from your provider. Menu names can differ slightly between model years.
Step 1: Find your model and software
Open Settings → Support → About This TV. You will see the model code and the software version. The model code is also on the label on the back of the TV. Note both – these are the details a support team needs to tell you whether your TV is supported.
Step 2: Update the TV
Go to Settings → Support → Software Update and choose to update. Out-of-date software is a common reason for apps being missing from the store or refusing to start.
Step 3: Connect to the network
Under Settings → General → Network you choose wireless or cable. If the TV has a network port and the router is nearby, a cable is the most stable option. More in Wi-Fi or Ethernet for streaming.
Step 4: Get the app from Samsung’s app store
- Press the Home button and open Apps.
- Search for the app your provider has specified.
- Choose Install and open the app.
Cannot find the app? Then it is probably not available for your model or region. Do not install anything from unknown sources – ask your provider whether there is another option, such as an external media device.
Step 5: Enter your details
Type the details exactly as you received them. Mind upper and lower case. The on-screen keyboard makes slips easy, so read the line through once more before you confirm.
If something plays up
- Restart properly. Hold down the power button on the remote until the TV restarts. That is not the same as just switching off the screen.
- Check the network. Do other apps work? If not, the fault is in the connection.
- Reinstall the app. Delete it and download it again.
- Contact support with the model code, the software version and a photo of the error message.
